On a trip to the US I bought a vacuum packaging system. Both food (dry food) as well as other items can be packaged in order to keep the moisture out. An additional advantage is that some things, such as toilet paper, takes less space.
I have made some experiments (rice and a toilet roll) to see how it comes out before doing the massive effort to pack all the items needed on a long journey.
